Frequently Asked Questions – Training

Why do you train in the aircraft?

There are several reasons. The Big One? Pilots prefer it. They are already familiar with their aircraft, the cockpit and the handling characteristics. Another big reason? Sims are not always available, and not exactly like the aircraft.

Do you train in sims at all?

All of our training comes with the simulator option, from simple desktop link trainers, flight training devices, and all the way up to level-D full motion simulators. We do not have all of them on our property but we have arrangements with other schools to use their equipment if needed.

What do you have on site?

Presently we are developing a flight training device (FTD) using the X-Plane software system. In our opinion, it most resemble actual flying characteristics of multiple aircraft. The FAA will not approve it as a full FTD until we add more hardware and remove all mouse usage. This is under development. In the meantime, it is very useful for procedures, emergency and cockpit familiarization training.

The link trainer is a single placed, X-Plane based simulator with multiple aircraft models. Eventually, we hope to eliminate all mouse usage and certify it as an approved FTD.
